Today the Madre and I went to brunch at Upstairs, a restaurant located in the Kimberly Hotel.
Upstairs is primarily known for their lounge menu, but they also offer a great brunch. Some of the menu highlights included lobster eggs benedict and truffled duck egg toast with duck prociutto and gruyere cheese.
Lobster rolls are my all-time favorite food, and this was quite a great variation. The roll contained generous hunks of the lobster meat with a lovely touch of tarragon. They also made the genius addition of fried shallot, which elevated the roll to a higher level. So good. The roll was accompanied by addictively tasty chips and a nicely dressed salad.
For our next dish we shared the grilled chicken salad. Though the chicken was on the dry side, the greens were tossed in an extremely tasty vinaigrette. While eating the salad I couldn’t help but notice that the tomatoes tasted extra sweet and delicious. I then realized that each tomato halve had been sprinkled with salt and pepper. Small details like that really make a big difference.
The outside lounge even contained a cozy fireplace! How neat!
Now that I recently turned 21, I can definitely see myself coming here with friends on a weekend night. The rarity of outdoor space in NYC makes this restaurant a real gem. With a friendly staff, stunning views, and great food, this would certainly be an ideal brunch destination for tourists and native NYCers alike.
